Cal Defeats Hawaii, 6-4 at MPSF Championships

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The California women's water polo team (17-8) dropped 14-14 Hawaii today, 6-4, at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships in Los Angeles. With the win, the Bears advance to the fifth place match, while Hawaii drops to the seventh place competition.

Hawaii jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Bears scored their first. The game was tied at 3-3 early in the third quarter, but Cara Chlebicki scored both of her game's goals to give the Golden Bears a 2-goal lead. Chelsea Garner-Prohs had 2 goals for Hawaii. California advances to Sunday's (April 28) fifth place game against the winner of the San Jose State-San Diego State contest, while Hawaii plays the loser of the Spartan-Aztec game for seventh place.

Cal will face San Jose State for the fifth time this season in the fifth-place game Sunday. The Bears are 4-0 in 2002 versus the Spartans.
