* The victory marked 1) Cal's first-ever national championship in softball; 2) the first-ever NCAA title by a Golden Bear women's athletics program; and 3) the second national title by a Golden Bear women's athletics program (Cal won the 1980 AIAW women's rowing championship).

* The Golden Bears' six-run margin of victory was the second-largest in Women's College World Series championship game history (Arizona defeated UCLA, 10-2, in 1997).

* California became the first Pac-10 team other than UCLA (eight championships) and Arizona (six) to win the softball national title.

* Cal pitcher Jocelyn Forest, the tournament's most outstanding player, completed the WCWS with a 4-0 record, 0.50 earned run average and 33 strikeouts in 28.0 innings. Forest won all eight of her 2002 NCAA postseason appearances. Forest tossed her second one-hitter against the Wildcats this season (April 21 was the other).

* Golden Bears' freshman Kaleo Eldridge committed the team's first error in seven games, dating back to a 1-0 victory against Fresno State on May 16 in the opening round of the team's NCAA regional. Today's error was only Eldridge's second of the year.

* Arizona senior pitcher Jennie Finch gave up a season-high six runs. The six runs surrendered by the Wildcats also tied a season high (May 19 vs. DePaul) and were the most given up in one inning all season.

* Arizona saw its seven-game winning streak in the Women's College World Series end.

* The six runs given up by the Wildcats in the seventh inning were more than Arizona gave up in its last five WCWS games combined (two runs).

* California was the only team to beat Arizona three times this year (3-1).

* The Golden Bears set school records this year for wins (56), runs (302), walks (301) and putouts (1,533).

* Arizona is now 6-4 in the WCWS title game.
