Cal Volleyball Captures Golden Bear Invitational

BERKELEY, CA - Led by the outstanding play of tournament MVP Mia Jerkov, the University of California women's volleyball team (3-0) captured the Golden Bear Invitational, defeating San Jose State (2-1), 3-0 (30-18, 30-25, 30-24), in the championship match Saturday night in Haas Pavilion.

Jerkov was spectacular in all three of the tournament contests. She led the Bears with 16 kills and 12 digs in the victory over Tennessee-Martin, recorded a team-high 13 kills and seven service aces in the win over Northern Arizona and finished with 19 kills and 10 digs versus San Jose State. She had a total of 48 kills for the tournament.

Senior Leah Young and sophomore Camille Leffall also played well against the Spartans. Young had eight kills with no errors in 13 attempts for a .615 hitting percentage. Leffall finished with nine kills with two errors in 16 attempts for a .438 hitting percentage. Both Young and Leffall joined Jerkov as members of the all-tournament team.

San Jose State was led by Fran Pozzi's 10 kills. The Spartans Stephanie Pascucci and Kimberly Noble were members of the all-tournament team. In the 5 p.m. consolation match, Tennessee-Martin (1-2) defeated Northern Arizona (0-3), 30-25, 30-21, 30-22.
