No. 17 Cal falls, 2-1, in Double Overtime to No. 12 Notre Dame

In search of their first win of the season, Cal (0-2-0) fell to Notre Dame (1-0-1), 2-1, in double overtime at Armstrong Stadium.
Cal opened the scoring in the game and for the season in the 48th minute, when junior forward Carl Acosta broke free and headed a goal past Notre Dame goalkeeper Chris Sawyer. Cal could not hold on though.
In the 81st minute, substitute Devon Prescod scored the tying goal on an assist from Justin Detter. Prescod was not done though as the game went to overtime. Just 1:10 into the second overtime, Prescod took a feed from Kevin Goldthwaite and notched it past Cal goalkeeper Brian Walker.
Cal was out shot in the contest by a 13-8 margin and lost the corner battle to by a 6-2 margin. Acosta led the Bears with four shots while the Prescod led the Irish with five.
The Bears now look to next weekend as they host the Cal Legacy Classic at Edwards Stadium. Cal will welcome Old Dominion on Friday at 2 pm and Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at 2 pm. Stanford will also participate in the tournament.
