No. 20 Cal Tops St Mary's, 2-1, with Second Half Surge

No. 20 California stretched its unbeaten streak to four games today with a 2-1 victory over St. Mary's. The victory levels the Bears record at 3-3-1 on the season.
Cal found itself in a hole right before halftime, when substitute Anthony Butler scored in the 44th minute past senior goalkeeper Brian Walker.
The Bears charged back in a matter of minutes in the second half though. Noah Merl scored in the 66th minute on two passes from Nick Hatzke and J.T. Searles. Merl was not finished though as he set up Carl Acosta in the 69th minute. The goal was Acosta's fifth in seven games.
Cal pressured hard throughout the game holding the advantage in shots, 21-6, and corners, 4-1. St. Mary's found themselves on the defensive for most of the game, committing 14 more fouls than Cal.
Next the Bears will head to Stanford for the annual Stanford Invitational Tournament, hoping to continue the good form they have found in the last several games.
