The No. 15-seeded Cal men's golf team fell to No. 2-seeded Oklahoma State, 3-2-0, Sunday in the first round of the 2004 Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship, held Nov. 14-16 at Mission Inn Resort at Howey-in-the Hills, Fla.
The winning players for the Golden Bears were redshirt freshman Kyle Dowden and senior Jeff Hood. Dowden defeated Oklahoma State's Zack Robinson, 4 and 3, while Hood upended the Cowboy's Alex Noren, 2 and 1. Cal freshman Michael Jensen fell to OSU's Pablo Martin, 4 and 3; junior Fredrik Svanberg lost to the Cowboys' Chris Clarke, 4 and 3; and sophomore Eric West fell to OSU's Zac Reynolds, 5 and 4.
In the second-round consolation bracket, No. 10 seeded UCLA was leading Cal, 3-2, when play was halted due to darkness. Competition will continue Monday at 8 a.m.
