BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Leon Powe came off the bench for the first time this season and had 23 points and 10 rebounds while Amit Tamir went over the 1,000-point mark for his career as California beat Oregon State 75-58 Saturday night.

Richard Midgley added 13 points for the Bears (13-12, 9-7), who remained one game out of second place in the Pacific-10 with two games to play.

Tamir scored 17 points and had five rebounds. Although he has played only three years he is in his final season with the Bears, because he lost a season of eligibility after playing in an organized league overseas. With 1,009 points, Tamir is the 33rd player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark.

David Lucas scored 14 points and had eight rebounds for Oregon State (11-15, 5-11).

Powe and regular starting point guard Ayinde Ubaka did not play for the first 7 1/2 minutes, as California coach Ben Braun opened the final home game of the year with seniors Gabriel Hughes and A.J. Diggs.

California led only 10-9 when Powe, the team's leading scorer and the top rebounder in the conference, entered the game. He started slowly, but scored nine points during a four-minute span late in the half as the Bears broke open a tight game.

California led 36-22 at halftime, and never led by fewer than 12 in the second half.

Early on, the Bears relied almost completely on Tamir and Midgley for offense. They combined for California's first 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, but the rest of the team was only 1-for-9.

Chris Stephens had 10 points and four rebounds for Oregon State.
