Two scores from forward Valentina Godfrid and another goal from forward Jenny Crane helped provide the No. 15 California field hockey team with a 3-1 NorPac Conference victory against Pacific on Saturday at Maxwell Family Field.
Godfrid, Cal's leading scorer with 26 points (10 goals, six assists), tallied her first score at the five minute, 33 second mark. The sophomore from Rosario, Argentina, received a pass about 35 yards from the Pacific net and raced the distance to score past Tigers goalkeeper Kim Myers.
Crane's game-winning goal came 18 minutes later on an assist from forward Maggie Grimes. Crane, a sophomore from Los Gatos, is shooting 1.000 this season with five goals on five shots.
Pacific cut the Bears' lead to 2-1 at 27:29 with a score from midfielder Lindsey Rovai.
Cal midfielder Jessica Bird hit the right cage post on a penalty stroke attempt early in the second half but Godfrid provided the final margin of victory at 54:36 with her second score of the afternoon.
Cal goalkeeper Kelly Knapp recorded three saves as the Bears improved to 2-1 in NorPac play and 9-2 overall. Cal resumes action on Friday against Virginia Commonwealth. Match time at Maxwell Family Field is slated for 1 p.m.
