Fullerton, Calif. - The No. 7 California men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games after defeating UC Irvine, 2-1, on Sunday night at the Cal State Fullerton SoccerTown Classic. Senior Carl Acosta and junior Nick Hatzke each tallied a goal.

The game's scoring all occurred during a three minute eruption in the second half. Acosta, a second-team preseason All-American, was the first to strike, notching his third goal of the season at the 69:22 mark. Junior forward Pieter Berger assisted on the play.

It only took the Anteaters 41 seconds to even the match, when Irvine's Brad Evans slotted a rebound home to tie the game at 1-1.

The stalemate wouldn't last, when at 71:41 Acosta was dragged down in the box by an Irvine defender. Junior midfielder Nick Hatzke converted the penalty kick, his third goal of the year, giving Cal the win and him a team-high nine points on the year (3 goals, 3 assists).
