BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Marquise Kately scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half and California hung on for its fifth straight home victory over Oregon, 65-62 on Thursday night.

Rod Benson had 15 points and six rebounds for the Golden Bears (10-8, 3-5 Pac-10), who built on their momentum from last weekend's road win over UCLA, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Dominic McGuire matched his career high with 12 points in the first half, and Cal then held off several rallies by the Ducks in the final minutes for its seventh win in the rivalry's last 10 games.

Malik Hairston scored 15 points for the Ducks (11-6, 3-5), who lost for the fifth time in seven games. The Bay Area road trip has been ugly for the Ducks, who haven't won in Berkeley since Feb. 12, 2000 - and haven't won at Stanford since Jan. 13, 1986.

But Oregon wasted several chances for a win at Haas Pavilion. The Ducks trailed by 12 early in the second half, but Aaron Brooks' 3-pointer with 2:06 to play capped an 18-8 run that cut Cal's lead to one point.

After Kately made two free throws, Brandon Lincoln made a layup to pull Oregon within 63-62. Cal's Martin Smith then missed a free throw - but Brooks missed an open 3-pointer with 20 seconds left, and Ayinde Ubaka sealed Cal's win on two free throws with 11.1 seconds left.

Jordan Kent scored 10 points for the Ducks, but airballed a 3-pointer in the closing minutes before missing a long leaning shot at the buzzer. Brooks finished with 11 points, well below his team-leading average.

Both programs are rebuilding, with no seniors on either roster - and the Bears played their third straight game without top scorer Richard Midgley, who has an injured right shoulder.

Cal took a 41-29 lead early in the second half on the first of two alley-oop dunks by McGuire, but Oregon hit three consecutive 3-pointers during a 13-2 run to stay close.

Brooks and Hairston hit two 3-pointers apiece, but Oregon made 18 turnovers.
