Final Stats

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The California softball team outlasted Mother Nature and Southern Illinois Friday at Eller Media Stadium, defeating the Salukis 1-0 in a six-inning game shortened by heavy rain.

Cal (2-0), which was rained out of a tournament last weekend and hadn't played since Feb. 5, received all the offense it would need on junior catcher Haley Woods' fourth inning solo home run. In the top of the inning, however, the Salukis (2-2) loaded the bases with no outs. Starter Kelly Anderson (1-0) got out of the jam with a lineout to second base and a game-saving groundout to home.

Anderson allowed one hit - a single in the first - and struck out three. Senior center fielder Kaleo Eldredge mustered the only other hit for the Bears.

Cal's scheduled 2 p.m. game against No. 14 Florida on Friday was cancelled. The Bears have games against Iowa State (9:30 a.m.) and UNLV (8:15 p.m.) slated for Saturday. Those games, along with a possible make-up against Florida, will be played pending weather.
