Final Stats
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -
Sophomore pitcher Sarah Adams scattered three hits and designated player Jeana Gevas hit her first career home run as the No. 1 California softball team defeated Iowa State on Saturday at the UNLV Invitational, 5-0.
In a game held up 50 minutes because of rain, Adams went the distance, striking out seven to earn her first victory as a Bear.
The Bears (3-0) went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning as senior center fielder Kaleo Eldredge tripled home third baseman Vicky Galindo with two outs. Cal extended its lead to 3-0 in the second on Gevas' one-out homer to center field that scored shortstop Chelsea Spencer. Gevas also plated Spencer in the fourth with a single.
Cal tacked on its final run in the seventh as first baseman Julie Meyer doubled to right field to score Eldredge.
Weather permitting, Cal will wrap up action in Las Vegas Sunday with a scheduled 11:30 a.m. tilt against Michigan State. Following that game, Cal will play host UNLV before returning home.
