Three California pitchers combined to hold the Santa Clara softball team to three total hits Wednesday afternoon as the No. 1 Golden Bears swept a doubleheader at Levine-Fricke Field, 6-0 and 6-0.
Cal senior Kelly Anderson (3-0) no-hit the Broncos through four and two-thirds innings in game No. 1 and the Bears got all the offense they would need in the first on a single from catcher Haley Woods that scored third baseman Vicky Galindo for a 1-0 lead.
Woods delivered again for Cal in the third, lacing a pitch from SCU starter Liz Courter (3-4) into center field to plate rightfielder Alex Sutton and Galindo. Cal tacked on three additional runs in the fifth.
In game No. 2, Woods collected three RBIs and starter Kristina Thorson (3-0) tossed five innings and struck out six Broncos to pick up the victory. The Bears scored four runs in the first inning, highlighted by first baseman Julie Meyer's double that scored shortstop Chelsea Spencer and second baseman Jessica Pamanian. Woods doubled in the second to score Galindo and Sutton for a 6-0 lead.
Cal returns to action Friday for first day competition at the Palm Springs Classic. The Bears face Mississippi State at 3:30 p.m. before a 6 p.m. showdown with No. 3 Texas.
