No. 3 California Sweeps First Day Action at Carolina Classic

The No. 3 California softball team posted victories against Harvard, 8-0, in five innings and Coastal Carolina, 8-1, on the opening day of the Carolina Classic at the UNC Softball Complex.
In the opener against the Crimson (2-3), shortstop Chelsea Spencer swatted a three-run homer and second baseman Jessica Pamanian hit a two-run double to pace a five-run second inning. Senior Kelly Anderson tossed a two-hitter and struck out eight to improve to a team-leading 13-1.
In the nightcap, junior Kristina Thorson struck out 12 Chanticleers and allowed three hits as Cal improved to 26-3 with the win.
Pamanian broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to right centerfield, her first of 2005. The Bears pulled away in the fifth on a three-run homer from center fielder Kaleo Eldredge and an RBI-single from right fielder Emily Friedman. Third baseman Vicky Galindo led off the seventh inning with a home run, her first of the year.
The Bears return to action Saturday with a doubleheader against host North Carolina at 1:30 p.m. PST and 4 p.m.
