Laura Cavallo and Molly Brady scored hat tricks to help California defeat Brown, 10-9, in a non-conference game on Friday afternoon. The victory snaps a two-game losing streak for the Golden Bears, who improve to 5-4 (1-0 MPSF), while the Brown Bears fall to 2-4.
Cal took its first lead of the game on Brady's first goal, at 20:37 of the first half. Sophomore teammate Jocelyn Paul assisted on the play. But Brown's Sarah Passano, who scored a game-high four goals, scored her first goal at 24:36 to tie the game at 4-4.
The Golden Bears took the lead for good when freshman Brittany Aungier scored an unassisted goal at 29:11 to give Cal a 5-4 lead at the break.
In the second half, Brady scored a pair of unassisted goals, at 35:50 and 37:24, and Cavallo scored at 37:36 to widen the margin to 8-4. Junior Leanne Zilioli scored her second goal off a free position shot at 43:27 and Cavallo scored at 43:35 to give Cal a 10-6 lead. Passano scored a hat trick for Brown over the last 11:12 of the game, but the Golden Bears held on to win, 10-9.
Cal next plays at Harvard at noon ET on Sunday, March 27.
