Sophomore goalkeeper Hilary Lynch made 14 saves in California's 11-6 non-conference victory over Harvard on Sunday. The Golden Bears, who have won two straight games, improve to 6-4 (1-0 MPSF), while the Crimson falls to 2-3.
Harvard had pulled to within 8-6, on Allie Kaveney's goal with 14:39 remaining in the second half. But Cal reeled off three straight goals - two from free position shots by freshman Cristen Andrews and sophomore Laura Cavallo and a Molly Brady goal set up by Leanne Zilioli - to clinch the win.
Sophomore Jocelyn Paul scored two goals and had one assist to pace the Bears. Natalie Curtis led Harvard with two goals.
The Crimson took its only lead of the game at 1-0 when Caroline Hines scored an unassisted goal at the 5:04 mark. Paul set up junior Schuyler Sokolow's goal at 10:02 and Paul scored her first at 17:15 to give Cal a 2-1 lead. Curtis tied the game at 2-2 on a free position shot at 24:34. Later tied at 3-3, Brady scored her first goal at 27:08 and Andrews scored her first, off a free position shot with 1:52 left before halftime, and Cal led, 5-3.
But Harvard's Margaret Yellott scored 11 seconds later and Elaine Belitsos scored 30 seconds into the second half to tie the game for the last time, at 5-5. Paul scored off a free position shot, Reifsnyder scored her second and Danni Zuralow assisted on a goal by fellow freshman Brittany Aungier to give Cal an 8-6 lead.
Cal next plays at MPSF rival Stanford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1.
