Led by senior Jeff Hood's ninth-place individual finish, the University of California men's golf team placed 12th Sunday at the U.S. Intercollegiate, played at the Stanford Golf Course. The Golden Bears finished at 48-over 888 (301-294-293), tying with UC Irvine. The USC men's golf team won the tournament with a six-over 846 (278-284-284). ASU's Pat Moore won the individual title with two-under 208 (71, 70, 67).
Hood, Cal's lone returner from its 2004 National Championship squad, shot a five-over 215 (70-73-72) for his best tournament finish of the 2004-05 season. Bear freshman Michael Jensen tied for 25th place with a 219 (72-75-72, +9), sophomore Brandon Beck shot 226 (80-71-72, T61st, +16), redshirt freshman Kyle Dowden shot 228 (79-75-74, T72nd, +18) and redshirt freshman Jeff Vetterick shot 232 (81-76-75, T83rd, +22).
The Bears will next compete at the Pac-10 Championships, Apr. 25-27 at the Walla Walla Country Club in Walla Walla, Wash.
