April 3, 2005
Final Stats
TUCSON, Ariz. -
Catcher Haley Woods hit a three-run homer and Kelly Anderson struck out six in improving to 17-1 as the No. 3 California softball team rebounded for a 6-3 victory against No. 2 Arizona Sunday at Hillenbrand Stadium.
A day after Cal fell to the Wildcats, 4-2, on a walk-off grand slam, the Bears out hit Arizona 14-4 and never trailed. It was Cal's first victory against Arizona since 2003 as the Bears were swept last season.
Cal (2-1 Pac-10, 31-4 overall) scored its first two runs in third inning. With one out, center fielder Kaleo Eldredge singled home third baseman Vicky Galindo. Two batters later, Woods reached on an error by Wildcat right fielder Courtney Fossatti that also allowed Eldredge to score.
Cal extended its lead to 5-0 in the fifth on Woods' team-leading 10th homer of the season. It was also Woods' third homer in three games as she swatted two against Arizona State Friday evening. A base hit by Woods an inning plated Galindo and pushed the Cal lead to 6-0.
Anderson recorded her seventh consecutive victory. Galindo went 4-for-5.
The Bears resume action Wednesday in a doubleheader against Saint Mary's beginning at 2 p.m.
