LOS ANGELES, CA - California scored five runs in the second inning and held on for a 6-4 victory at UCLA Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Golden Bears improved to 29-18 overall and 9-8 in the Pac-10. Senior right-hander Eric Dworkis evened his record to 5-5, pitching 7.3 innings with 10 hits, four runs, one walk and six strikeouts, while senior left-hander Travis Talbott earned his seventh save of the season, throwing the final 1.7 innings with three hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

Down 1-0, Cal exploded for five runs in the second when Bruin starter Bryan Beck ran into control problems, walking the first three batters of the inning. Sophomore catcher Garrett Bussiere then knocked in a RBI single to center, freshman shortstop Kyle Spraker had a RBI groundout, freshman first baseman Mike Van Winden scored on a balk and senior third baseman Matt Einspahr hit a sacrifice fly. Sophomore right fielder Chris Errecart concluded the inning's scoring with a RBI double to right.

Beck went on to throw a complete game with eight hits, six runs, three walks and seven strikeouts.

UCLA had scored in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Chris Jensen before the Bears big second inning. Cal extended its lead to 6-1 on a RBI single up the middle by junior left fielder Allen Craig in the fourth inning. The Bruins later mounted a comeback with a two-run single by Chris Denove in the sixth inning, and run in the eighth on a pinch-hit RBI single by Will Penniall, before Talbott ended UCLA's rally.

Bussiere and Craig finished with three hits apiece for the Bears. Bussiere was 3-for-4 with a RBI, while Craig went 3-for-5 with a RBI.

Cal will next play UCLA in the third game of the three-game Pac-10 series, Sunday, May 1 at 1 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles. The Bears won the first game of the series, 7-1, Friday night.
