Final Stats

BERKELEY - The No. 3 California softball team outlasted Mother Nature and No. 20 Washington in defeating the Huskies, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field.

In a game delayed 25 minutes in the first inning due to precipitation in Strawberry Canyon, the Bears used a Kaleo Eldredge homer as part of a three-run third inning and an insurance run by third baseman Vicky Galindo in the sixth to improve to 34-4 on the season and 3-1 in the Pac-10. Starter Kristina Thorson struck out five Huskies in four innings of work to improve to 15-4 while Kelly Anderson struck out four in three innings of relief.

Eldredge broke a scoreless game in the third with her sixth homer of the season, a one-out blast over the right field wall that scored Galindo. The next hitter, second baseman Jessica Pamanian, reached first base on an error by Washington shortstop Ashley Charters. Following a base hit from shortstop Chelsea Spencer, right fielder Emily Friedman singled home Pamanian for a 3-0 Cal lead.

Washington wasted no time cutting into the Bears' advantage as the Husky first baseman Sarah Hyatt hit a two-run homer off of Thorson in the fourth.

Galindo doubled to lead off the Cal sixth and scored on a groundout by Eldredge. Washington third baseman Kathy Fiske cut the Cal lead to 4-3 with a solo homer in the seventh. Anderson, however, induced a double-play ground ball three hitters later to preserve the victory.

The Bears return to action Saturday against No. 12 UCLA in a matchup of the last two Women's College World Series title game participants. Action at Levine-Fricke Field gets underway at 1:05 p.m.
