STANFORD, Calif. -
California senior Jeff Hood, the lone returnee from last season's NCAA champion men's golf team, is in a tie for 110th place after Thursday's opening round of the NCAA West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course. The Golden Bears captain shot a seven-over 77.
Hood began the day at three-over on the back nine with a double-bogey and bogey on holes 12 and 13, respectively. He wrapped up the first round with a birdie on the par 4, ninth hole.
BYU's Oscar Alvarez holds the first-day lead at seven-under 63.
Hood tees off the second round at 9:09 a.m. Friday from hole one. Cal didn't qualify as a team for NCAA regional play.
