DAVIDSON, N.C. - The California field hockey team (5-6, 2-1 NorPac) rolled over Davidson (1-6, 0-2 NorPac), 7-2, Thursday afternoon in Davidson, N.C.
Junior forward Valentina Godfrid scored a game-high four goals; this was the most goals she's scored in one game this season. Godfrid scored 15 minutes into the game off a rebound. Her second goal of the first period came off a penalty corner; senior forward Teela Crosthwaite and senior backfielder Jenna Long were credited with the assist. Godfrid continued her scoring rout in the second period. In the last 15 minutes of the game she scored off another penalty corner (Crosthwaite and Long with the assist); and collected her fourth goal off an assist by senior midfielder Chilly Banuelos. The four goals scored by Godfrid today, gives the native of Rosario, Argentina 15 goals on the season.
Freshman forward Missy Crane also joined Godfrid in the scoring action. Crane added two goals; her first goal came in the early minutes of the second period off a Banuelos pass. Eleven minutes later Crane scored again, this time the assist was given to freshman forward Andrea Lo. Missy's sister sophomore forward Jenny Crane, scored her first goal of the season in the final three minutes of the game; the goal was unassisted.
Defensively, goalkeeper Veronica Sykes collected two saves. Sykes had a save in each period. In addition to Sykes' toughness in the net, the Golden Bears held Davidson to only eight shot attempts the entire game.
The Bears continue their crucial conference road trip on Saturday when they face Radford, in Davidson N.C. Game time is slated 1:00 p.m. (EST).
