No. 13 Field Hockey Routs Appalachian State, 9-0

BERKELEY - The No. 13 California Golden Bear field hockey team jumped out to an early and didn't look back against Appalachian State on Friday. The Bears routed the Mountaineers, 9-0, at Maxwell Family Field.

Two minutes into the contest, junior forward Jennifer Crane tapped in the Bears first goal. Five minutes later senior forward Valentina Godfrid scored her 23rd goal of the season off a penalty corner. Godfrid was assisted by sophomore forward Andrea Lo and sophomore midfielder Rachel Moffitt.

Crane scored her second goal of the game in the 21st minute of the game off a penalty corner. Sophomore backfielder Christina McGrath and Moffitt were credited with the assists.

Godfrid connected on the Bears' next two goals, scoring an unassisted goal and then converting off a pass from Moffitt.

Sophomore forward Katie Cummings knocked in her second goal of the season, three minutes before the half.

Nine minutes into the second half, Crane scored her third goal of the game and sixth of the season. A minute following Crane's goal, sophomore midfielder Ashley Glosz converted on her 10th goal of the season. She was assisted by freshman forward Kellie York.

York also got into the scoring action, scoring her second goal of the season in the final eight minutes of the contest.

During the game Appalachian State only crossed the midfield mark about a dozen times. Cal only allowed one shot attempt from the Mountaineers.

The Bears will travel to face Longwood in a conference game on Thursday, Oct. 19, in Farmville, Va. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. (EST) start.
