Louisville, Ky. - After falling to No. 10 Connecticut on Sunday, the No. 14 California Golden Bears (9-3, 1-0 NorPac) zipped past the 13th-ranked Louisville Cardinals, 5-3, on Monday afternoon in Louisville, Ky.

The Bears attacked first, with Valentina Godfrid scoring 16 minutes into the game off a penalty corner. Sophomores midfielder Rachel Moffitt and forward Andrea Lo were credited with the assists.

In the final five minutes of the first half, the Bears scored three unanswered goals. Godfrid tapped in another goal with five minutes left in the half. Sophomore forward Katie Cummings scored her first goal of the season a minute following Godfrid's goal. Sophomore midfielder Gwen Belomy notched a goal with two minutes left in the half, giving the Bears the 4-0 advantage at half.

In the first five minutes of the second half, senior midfielder Jamie Nance scored her season's first goal. Nance was assisted by Ashley Glosz, who collected her fourth assist of the season off the pass.

Louisville went on a 3-0 run over the 12 minutes following Nance's score, but could not notch the extra goals to give them the victory.

Defensively for the Bears, goalkeeper Veronica Sykes had 10 saves during the game.

The Bears return home to host Davidson in a conference game on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. (PST). The game will be held at Maxwell Family Field on the Berkeley campus.
