BERKELEY - The No. 12 California Golden Bear field hockey team defeated Ohio, 1-0, on Tuesday in Berkeley, Calif., to advance to the NCAA Championship.

The Bears started the game off with full ball control for the first five minutes and, finally, Ohio was able to get the ball across the midfield. A defensive battle continued during the first half.

With 16 minutes remaining in the game, Cal scored. Junior forward Jenny Crane shot the ball, off a pass from senior Valentina Godfrid. Crane's attempt hit the post, but sophomore forward Andrea Lo was at the left post to tip the ball in for the goal.

Defensively for the Bears, sophomore goalkeeper Veronica Sykes collected five saves and both sophomore backfielder Rachel Moffitt and midfielder Ashley Glosz recorded defensive saves.

The field for the NCAA Championship, and Cal's particular NCAA Regional, will be announced today at 4:30 p.m. (PT) on CSTV. The four NCAA Regionals, each of which consists of two first- and one second-round game, will be held on Nov. 11-12.
