The California lacrosse team lost to 17th-ranked Cornell, 14-1, in a non-conference game on Friday afternoon at Schoellkoepf Field. The result is the second straight loss for the Golden Bears, whose record fell to 2-3. The Big Red, which has a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series with Cal, improved its record to 2-1.
Cornell took a 5-0 lead before the Bears scored their lone goal of the game. Cal senior Leanne Zilioli scored in the 17th minute, but the Bears could not score again as the Big Red won its home opener.
Junior goalkeeper Hilary Lynch made 13 saves for the Bears, who were outshot, 36-11.
Cal, which lost to Vanderbilt, 13-7, in its previous game on March 7, next plays Colgate at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday in Hamilton, N.Y.
