No. 6/7 Cal Pulls Out Win Over Colorado State

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- No. 6/7 California turned in a 4-2 win against Colorado State on the second day of the rainy National Invitational Softball Tournament at Twin Creeks Sports Complex. The game started at 9 p.m. on Saturday evening, with the Bears going ahead 1-0 in the first inning after senior Haley Woods drove in senior Lindsay James on an RBI single. Colorado State tied it up at 1-1 in the fifth on a solo home run from Brittany Huerta. The game was called due to rain shortly thereafter - at 10:30 p.m. - and resumed Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
In the continuation of the game, the Bears scored three runs in the sixth to take the final 4-1 lead. Freshman Morgan Siegel led off the inning with a single. Woods reached base on a walk, with Jessica Moore replacing her as a pinch runner. Freshman Carly Winger drove in Siegel on an RBI single. Senior Emily Friedman drove in Moore on a sacrifice fly. Winger scored the game's final run on an RBI single from junior Alex Sutton.
Freshman Lauren Frankiewicz improved to 7-0 this season, striking out seven and giving up four hits.
