No. 14 Field Hockey Defeats Miami (Ohio) in Overtime Thriller

Oxford, Ohio - The No. 14 California Golden Bears field hockey team defeat Miami (Ohio), 4-3, in Oxford, Ohio on Friday afternoon. The game went into double overtime, with senior Valentina Godfrid scoring the Bears the winning goal.
Godfrid shot the ball eight times during the game, connecting on two shots. She scored Cal's first goal 12 minutes into the game, evening the game at 1-1 after Miami (Ohio) had scored four minutes into the game. Jennifer Crane assisted Godfrid on her first goal.
Six minutes after Godfrid's goal, sophomore midfielder Gwen Belomy scored her first collegiate goal. The goal was scored off a penalty corner, she was assisted by Godfrid. In the final minute of the first half, the Red Hawks' Deb Leighton scored a goal tying the game again.
The next goals did not come until the last ten minutes of the game, when sophomore forward Ashley Glosz scored her eighth goal of the season, off an pass from Crane. Miami (Ohio) tied the game again, one minute following Glosz's goal.
No goals were scored in the first overtime. In the second overtime, Godfrid hit a hard shot from the top of the circle to give the Bears the victory.
The Bears continue their road swing, with a game against No. 10 Connecticut on Sunday in Louisville, Ky. The game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. (CST) start.
