BERKELEY - The No. 8 California volleyball team (18-5, 8-4 Pac-10) defeated Oregon State (10-14, 3-9) tonight at Haas Pavilion in a three-game sweep of the Beavers (30-15, 30-19, 30-23). The Bears are now one win away from tying their total conference wins from a year ago.

Cal had 53 kills on 100 attacks (15e) for a hitting percentage of .380, the highest output since playing at Oregon on Oct. 4, and the fourth highest percentage of the season. Sophomore outside hitter Hana Cutura led the Bears with 15 kills (5e, 29att, .345) and added two service aces to her stat line. Freshman setter Carli Lloyd had 41 assists on her sets and got in on two blocks. Sophomore libero Kristen Kathan led the team with 16 digs.

The Bears were steadfast at the net, putting up 12.5 total team blocks and holding the Beavers to .000 (9k, 9e, 39att) in the first game and .074 hitting (32k, 24e, 108att) for the match. Oregon State was only able to dig up 26 Cal attacks as the Bears move to 18-0 on the season when posting more kills than the opponent.

Every Cal player got to see action today as backup setter, freshman Maria Zizka entered the match in game three, posting three assists to help the Bears close out the Beavers. It was an Oregon State service error by sophomore outside hitter Rachel Rourke that sealed the contest, effectively ending the small run the Beavers had gone on.

The Bears opened the match on a roll, jumping out to an 11-3 lead right away. A Cutura kill off the fingertips of Beaver blockers gave Cal a 23-8 lead. The Bears finished the game off with a 15 point win. In the second, the Beavers put up a fight, trailing by four through the first part of the game but the Bears put together several small runs to push their lead to 10 once again and eventually took a 2-0 lead winning by 11.

The Bears remain home to host No. 19 Oregon on Friday (Nov. 2) in a 7 p.m. match at Haas Pavilion.
