BERKELEY - Junior forward Andrea Lo scored in the 26th minute to give California a 1-0 victory over Missouri State in a non-conference match on Monday morning at Maxwell Family Field. The Golden Bears evened their record to 1-1, while the visiting Bears fell to 0-4.

Cal improved on its performance in its season-opening 2-0 loss to No. 15 Indiana on Aug. 26, outshooting Missouri State, 27-5, on Labor Day. But MSU goalkeeper Kim Kinsella made 13 saves to keep her Bears close.

"It's good for Andrea to finish up with a goal," Cal head coach Shellie Onstead said. "I played her at forward today because she has so much to offer up there, and we're trying to find the right combination of forwards and mids to make it work.

"I'd like to see a better conversion rate as a team. We're going to work on that a lot next week. "

Lo, who can also play in midfield, outshot MSU all by herself, collecting six shots. She scored at the 25:06 mark to give Cal a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Bears fired a flurry of shots late in the game, with Kinsella making saves on four of the 10 shots she faced in the last 10 minutes.

The Cal goalkeeping tandem of junior starter Kelly Knoche and senior Liz Braasch, who played the second half, combined for one save, which Braasch made. Cal junior midfielder Ashley Glosz, though, made two defensive saves, with one in each half.

The Golden Bears next travel to Davidson, N.C., where they will play three games against NorPac Conference opponents. Cal plays host Davidson at 7 p.m. ET on Sept. 13, Appalachian State at 1 p.m. ET on Sept. 15 and Radford on 1 p.m. ET on Sept. 16. Cal returns to Maxwell Family Field on Sept. 21 when the Bears take on Pacific at 7 p.m.
