Final Stats
STANFORD, Calif. -
Cal head coach Joanne Boyle
Opening statement
"The credit goes to Stanford. I thought they had a great game plan. I thought we made some adjustments in the second half to get us back in, but I thought we were really passive in the first half and didn't step up and take the shots we needed to, and questioned ourselves some. That, and not guarding Candice (Wiggins) the right way, the way we talked about in practice, was disappointing. I thought Tara did a great job with her game plan and really took things away from us. We didn't do our job of stepping up in the first half when we got down and had a really big hole to dig ourselves out of."
On why her team was passive
"I don't know. We worked on their sagging man. We knew they were going to play us a sagging man or zone. There was the surprise of kind of getting punched in the stomach in the first couple of minutes in the game, and we didn't respond. I don't think we moved the ball very well, and we were staring our posts down. They weren't open. By the time we decided we were going to take shots, we questioned them. We needed to come out more confident. They're a great team, but we're 8-1. It's one step backwards. We have to come out swinging. Everybody is after us, and we have to gain confidence on the offensive end. We have been confident and shot really well this year. Today was not our day. Their role players really stepped up and made some big shots for them."
Cal forward/center Ashley Walker
On looking ahead to the second half of conference play
"We still control our own destiny. We're 8-1, and a lot of people didn't expect us to be that in first place. We definitely want to get another chance at (Stanford) at the end of the season. We still have eight more games before they come to our place."
