CORVALLIS, Ore. -
Cal head coach Joanne Boyle
General thoughts on the game
"I was really pleased with the second half. We just started out really slow, really tentative, questioning making buckets. We missed some easy shots and came out really tentative. I thought our defense kept us in the game. I thought we were very focused on the defensive end. I thought we relaxed and played our game and were confident and played aggressive in the second half. We have to find a way to start games out like that because that's not what we're doing right now."
On Natasha Vital and Ashley Walker
"I thought Tasha did an unbelievable job in the second half. She made some great shots. She was really poised and focused. She got the ball to Ashley on the baseline, where Ashley is really good at scoring. I think she put Ashley in position to get great looks, too.
On what Oregon State was doing in the first half
"They had a lot of energy in their zone. They were running. We were tentative. We weren't hitting the open person. I thought we were really tentative, and credit to them, they played a really aggressive zone. In the second half, we settled down and really go the ball off of our head more and were a lot more aggressive."
Cal sophomore guard Natasha Vital
On her evaluation of the game
"We started off really slow. We were really hesitant when we saw the zone coming. In the second half, we got more confident with what we could do against the zone, and we were more aggressive. That was the difference in the first half and the second half."
On her own energy in the second half
"We were disappointed in our performance in the second half. We just came out and wanted to show everybody that we could play against the zone and that we could score. We weren't playing Cal basketball the way we know we could in the first half. We made a point of coming out in the second half and showing that we can play."
