Hayward - Cal (18-8) extended its winning streak to five games after a 15-4 win (in six innings) over San Jose State in the second day of the NIST at the Alden E. Oliver Sports Park in Hayward on Saturday.

The Bears pounded out a season-high 18 hits, while the 15 runs tied a season-best. Katie Vickers and Sanoe Kekahuna accounted for six of the15 runs combined, while Bernice Masaniai and Valerie Arioto tallied three RBI each. Cal's pitching was consistent as well as Brittany LaRosa and Arioto combined to give up four runs on just two hits.

San Jose State gained the upper hand by taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. That advantage did not last long as Cal quickly erased the deficit with a three-run second inning. Kekahuna, who doubled with one out, advanced to third after Vickers singled, and scored after Julie Meyer cracked a single to the outfield. A fielding error ensued which allowed Vickers to score, and a LaRosa infield ground out enabled Meyer to score, giving Cal a 3-1 lead.

Cal then exploded for seven runs in the third inning to take a commanding 10-1 lead. Masaniai provided the inning's first big hit when her single to center field plated both Erika Racklin and Gina Leomiti. After two more runs scored, Arioto provided the other big bang when her triple cleared the base pads, enabling three runs to score.

The Bears added a run in the fourth, before piling on four more in the top of the sixth. Masaniai led off the inning with a solo home run to ignite the scoring. Cal reeled off a pair of singles later in the inning to score another two runs.
