Box Score

NEW YORK, N.Y. - California lost the last game of its long road trip, 11-7, to Columbia on Monday afternoon. The Golden Bears' setback snapped their five-game winning streak and moved Cal's record to 9-6. The Lions improved to 4-10.

Junior attacker Madeleine Dale led Cal in scoring with three points (2 goals, 1 assist). Columbia's Holly Glynn led all scorers with six points (3 goals, 3 assists).

Cal, which has played its last seven games on the road, last played at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley on March 20, when it hosted George Washington.

The Bears outshot the Lions, 24-18, and put 21 of those 24 shots on goal. But a good performance by goalkeeper Emma Mintz, who made 13 saves, secured the win for Columbia.

Glynn set up the Lions the first two goals, by Frances Callaghan (at 2:13) and Marisa Marcellino (9:28), to put Columbia ahead, 2-0.

At 10:48, senior attacker Brittany Aungier earned possession for Cal with a caused turnover and at 11:49 Aungier assisted on Dale's first goal to make the score 2-1.

Cal fouls set up the next two Columbia goals, as Brittany Shannon (13:47) and Callaghan (14:49) converted free-position shots to put the Lions ahead, 4-1. Glynn set up teammate Megan Donovan's goal at 22:18, and Columbia led, 5-1.

After a Mintz saved an Aungier shot, Dale corralled the loose ball and fed it to Bears junior attacker Elizabeth "T" Jahp, who scored at 25:45 to cut the Lions' lead down to 5-2. Cal freshman midfielder Emily Abbood won the ensuing draw control, and sophomore midfielder Alex Tickner assisted on senior midfielder Cristen Andrews' goal at 26:34 to make the score 5-3.

Glynn scored at 27:50 to push Columbia's advantage back up to three goals at 6-3. But Cal senior attacker Danni Zuralow converted a free-position goal at 28:30 after a foul and yellow card to the Lions' Kristen Teatom, and Columbia took a 6-4 lead into halftime.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Glynn scored twice (31:21 and 38:01) and Shannon scored once (33:12) to put the Lions ahead, 9-4.

Cal scored the game's next three goals, on strikes by Tickner (38:46), Zuralow (41:28) and Dale (45:22), to get within two of Columbia at 9-7.

But the Bears would get just two more shots the rest of the game, and Mintz saved both efforts. Tickner took both, including a free-position shot at 47:22.

Meanwhile, Shannon (48:21) and Gabrielle Geronimos (53:26) scored for Columbia to clinch the 11-7 win over the Bears.

Cal hosts Denver at 1 p.m. on Saturday April 26 for its final home game before hosting the MPSF Championship tournament in Berkeley.
