Cal Ties Washington, 1-1, in OT

SEATTLE -
California tied Washington, 1-1, in overtime on Friday night at Husky Soccer Field to earn a point in the Pac-10 Conference standings. Junior forward Andrew Wiedeman had knotted the score at 1-1 in the 35th minute with a 20-yard blast into the upper part of the net. Wiedeman had the game's last scoring chance, with a swerving shot from outside the Huskies' penalty area that went just high of the crossbar. The Golden Bears' record now stands at 8-7-1 (2-5-1 Pac-10, 7 points) after snapping a four-game losing streak. The Huskies' record moves to 4-5-5 (1-1-4, 7 points).
Brad Keller gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on a 10-yard volley after a cross by Matt Van Houten.
Cal senior defender Jacob Wilson earned his first point of the season when his through ball set up Wiedeman for the latter's team- and Pac-10 leading 11th goal of the season.
The Bears shut out UW's leading scorer Brent Richards, who took a game-high nine shots and a game-high four shots on goal. Overall, Washington outshot Cal, 20-16, though Cal outshot the Huskies, 6-3, in overtime.
Sophomore goalkeeper David Bingham made seven saves in 110 minutes of work. Huskies keeper Rylan Hawkins made three saves.
The Bears continue their conference road trip with a game against Oregon State at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, in Corvallis, Ore.
