DAVIS, Calif. -

The California Golden Bears (33-15, 8-7 Pac-10) won their final regular-season non-conference game of the year, earning a 3-1 road victory at UC Davis Wednesday afternoon.

The UC Davis Aggies (21-27) committed three errors in the second inning, giving Cal its first scoring opportunity. Junior Shannon Thomas led off the inning with a single. She stole second, advancing to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Vernae Sevilla singled down the first base line, scoring Thomas. After the next two batters reached on two more Davis errors, the Bears had bases loaded with no outs. The Bears managed to get one run across the plate on a fielder's choice, taking a 2-0 lead.

Davis got a run back in the bottom of the inning, scoring an unearned run of their own after getting a runner aboard on a pass ball after a strikeout. The runner came around to score on an error by the Bears' infield.

The Bears had a chance to build on their lead when junior Shannon Houston, freshman Frani Echavarria, and sophomore Valerie Arioto had back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases with no outs, but a pop up that Davis turned into a double play followed by a fly out got the Aggies out of the jam.

Cal managed to get a run back in the fifth inning on a solo home run to deep left field by junior Bernice Masaniai. The home run, the 49th of the season for the team, tied the school record for most home runs in a season. The mark was set in the 2007 season. The home run by Masaniai was her third home run in the last four games and her fifth overall this season.

Junior pitcherMarissa Drewrey, coming into the game in the fourth inning, earned her 19th victory of the season, pitching four shut out innings, allowing two hits, striking out three, and walking none. Valerie Arioto, pitching the first three innings, allowed one unearned run on just one hit, striking out five with no walks.

The Bears will be back in action this weekend at Levine-Fricke Field, playing their final homestand of the 2009 season. On Friday, the Bears will host the Arizona Wildcats at 3 p.m. They close out the weekend with games Saturday and Sunday against Aarizona State.
