No. 9 Wake Forest Defeats Cal, 5-1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The California field hockey team had its three-game winning streak snapped when the Golden Bears fell to No. 9 Wake Forest, 5-1, Sunday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C. Sophomore Megan Shimojima tallied the lone goal for the Bears. Cal drops to 5-5 on the season, while the Demon Deacons improve to 7-5.

Wake Forest took a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime. Shimojima notched her goal in the 41st minute. The goal came on a fast break and a cross from the right side by freshman Jordan O'Reilly, who earned the assist. Shimojima led the Bears with two shots on goal.

Maddie Hand gave up the four first-half goals, while earning one save. In the second half, Haleh Nourani made three saves and allowed one score.

It doesn't get any easier for Cal. The Bears stay in North Carolina to face second-ranked North Carolina tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT.
