BERKELEY - Hector Jimenez sent No. 10 California away happy with a golden goal in the 109th minute to beat Washington, 2-1, in double overtime on a Halloween Sunday at Edwards Stadium. The Pac-10 leading Golden Bears' record improved to 11-2-3 (7-1-1 in the Pac-10). Washington fell to 9-5-1 (3-4-0 Pac-10).

Cal played in its 10th overtime game of the year, eighth double overtime game of the season and fifth straight OT match. The Bears have a 5-2-3 record in overtime and a 3-2-3 record in double overtime.

Substitute John Crenshaw had given the Huskies a 1-0 lead at 21:55. After Daniel Gray's corner kick found Chris Brundage, Cal junior goalkeeper David Bingham saved Brundage's eventual shot and Crenshaw stuck the loose ball in the back of the net.

The Bears trailed for most of regulation, as UW took its 1-0 lead into halftime, when it held a 10-7 shot advantage on Cal. Senior forward Davis Paul and sophomore midfielder Chris Ortega forced UW goalie Spencer Richey into a pair of saves late in the half, with Paul putting a shot on goal at 39:55 and Ortega coming close at 41:55.

Bingham made six of his game-high 10 saves in the first half.

At 78:09, Washington fouled Jimenez, a senior midfielder, in its penalty area. Cal senior midfielder Servando Carrasco converted the ensuing penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. The goal marked Carrasco's fifth of the season.

Bingham made all three of his second-half saves after Cal's equalizer, with UW forward Brent Richards forcing a save at 89:37 for the last shot of regulation.

Cal outshot Washington, 6-0, in the first overtime, with sophomore midfielder Tony Salciccia, Paul, senior defender A.J. Soares and Carrasco, firing as time expired, collecting four shots on goal for the Bears. Richey made four of his eight saves for the game in the first OT.

In the second overtime, a UW foul set up a Cal free kick about 25 yards from goal. Paul took the free kick and passed to Jimenez streaking into the Huskies' box. He shot from a difficult angle into the goal for his second goal of the season at 108:08. Paul picked up his team-high 10th assist of the year.

Cal closes out the regular season with a match against Pac-10 rival Stanford at 2 p.m. on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The Bears would claim the Pac-10 championship and the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament with a win over the Cardinal.
