Head coach Patrick Laughlin
Opening statement
"Congratulations to Cal. They're an outstanding team and showed it today. I think their goalkeeper [
David Bingham] was excellent today, and he really made a big difference in the game. He came up with some outstanding saves in the second half, and as a team, when you see a team get behind a goalkeeper and clear one off the line off a player's body, you know that's a team determined to win."
On his team's strong defense
"All year long our defense has been strong. That's why people have emphasized that. Same with Cal. It's the same type of thing - they've been in a lot of close games. These two guys [David Walls and Ryan McDuff] and the other defenders and goalkeeper have done an excellent job all year long. I think that's why it's been emphasized so much for us. I think that anyone who saw the game today, you saw that we like to attack. We outshot the opponent, outcornered the opponent. We really went for it in the second half. I'm very proud of these guys for going for it and that chance and taking those risks. They've been outstanding all year."
On Cal compared to Brown's other opponent's this year
"I think one of the traits that makes Cal a very good team is passing. Their two central midfield players are quality. Move well with the ball, play the ball quickly. They're a strong team. Like all the strong teams we play, they have different aspects that are their strengths. Looking at that team after today and after scouting them, what we thought were their strengths - which was their two central midfielders, their quickness and their pace throughout their team and the goalkeeper - that's shone through, and that's gotten them the result and the chance to move on and the chance to play in the final eight."
Sophomore defender Ryan McDuff
On the first goal
"It was a good ball. It kind of went between our two guys in the zone, and he did well putting it in. You can defend it a little bit better, but it was just a good goal. Well put."
Senior defender David Walls
On the own goal
"We had the ball and we gave it to them pretty easily, and then the guy just put in a pretty dangerous ball. I think the grass is slightly different [than on] the East Coast. It just bounced up and hit Eric Robertson around his shin, and it's gone in."
