Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - The No. 11/12 California softball team allowed six runs in Oklahoma's end of the fifth inning, and dropped the final decision, 12-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Oklahoma got right to work in the top of the first with lead-off hitter Haley Nix walking and then advancing to second off a single down the left-field line by Chana'elf Jones. Nix then scored when Jessica Shults singled up the middle.
Holding a 1-0 lead with the first inning complete, the Sooners tacked on two more runs in the second thanks to a RBI double to right center by Karolyness Long, who later scored on a passed ball.
After Oklahoma scored three runs in the top of the fourth off a home run by Flores, Cal responded in the bottom of the fourth.
The Bear action occurred in the very first at bat. Leading off, Arioto saw five pitches from Keilani Rickets in the circle before she powered one off to center field for a solo shot, and what would be Cal's only score of the game.
The Sooners scored six runs off two home runs - a two RBI shot from Long and a four grand slam from Lindsey Vandever - in the top of the fifth to earn the mercy victory.
Jolene Henderson started and pitched four innings with Marissa Drewrey closing out the game in the fifth.
Arioto and Frani Echavarria each had a hit for the Bears. Ziegenhirt earned a team-high two walks.
For the Sooners, Rickets pitched the complete-game, allowed just two hits and one earned run.
The Bears conclude the weekend against Georgia Tech on Sunday.
