BERKELEY - California's Michael Munoz scored an equalizer with 54 seconds remaining in regulation to send the Golden Bears into overtime with Denver, and Cal wound up tying the Pioneers, 2-2, after 110 minutes on Friday at Edwards Stadium. The Bears, who played in their fifth overtime game and fourth double overtime game of the season today, saw their record move to 4-1-2. Denver's record stands at 3-2-2 after the nonconference match, which was part of the Stanford Nike Classic.

Munoz's late score marked the first goal of the sophomore forward's Cal career.

Denver scored first when Alex Tarnoczi crossed to Kellan Christensen, who scored from close range at 7:57 to give the Pioneers the 1-0 lead.

Ryan Neil pulled one back for Cal at 25:30, then the freshman midfielder stole the ball from the feet of Denver goalkeeper Teale Stone, rounded the goalie and shot into an empty net. That marked Neil's first goal of his Cal career.

The match went into halftime tied at 1-1.

At 71:10, Kegan Harkenrider played a give and go with Jarod Stigall, and Harkenrider scored past junior goalkeeper David Bingham to give DU a 2-1 lead.

For the second time this season, Cal scored in the last minute at home to send a game to overtime. The first time occurred in Cal's eventual 2-1 double overtime loss to Saint Mary's on Sept. 10, when senior forward Davis Paul scored with four seconds left in regulation to tie that game.

This time, at 89:06, Cal sophomore midfielder Chris Ortega crossed to Munoz, whose header hit the Denver crossbar and bounced down. The game officials quickly conferred and ruled that the goal had crossed the goalline, giving Cal the tying goal.

Neither team took another shot in regulation, and the game went into overtime knotted at 2-2.

Tarnoczi shot high over Cal's goal at 92:27 for the only shot of the first sudden-victory overtime.

There were three total shots in the second overtime period, as Tarnoczi shot wide left at 100:41, Cal sophomore defender Steve Birnbaum nodded a shot over the Pioneers' goal at 105:53 and Stigall fired high at 108:57.

The match ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Bears outshot Denver, 20-14, and forced Stone into making nine saves. Bingham made three saves for Cal.

Cal opens the Pac-10 Conference season with its next match at rival Stanford on Oct. 2.
