SEATTLE - California held off Washington for much of the match but eventually lost to the Huskies, 1-0, when the Golden Bears could not recover from a Brent Richards penalty kick in the 75th minute on Sunday at Husky Soccer Stadium. The Bears' record fell to 3-7-4 (0-5-2 in the Pac-12), while UW improved to 10-3-2 (5-2-0 Pac-12).

The host Huskies outshot Cal, 24-9, on the day, but the game was 0-0 until Richards, who scored twice in a 2-1 win over the Bears last week, converted his PK.

"Both teams gave it their all," Cal head coach Kevin Grimes said. "It came down to one play. Our players played with a lot of heart and determination. That's all you can really ask of your guys, and they did that."

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kevin Peach, earning his fourth start of the year, made six saves to keep Cal in the game. He made one in the first half, as UW outshot the Bears, 9-6.

Peach made five saves in the second half, in which the Huskies outshot Cal, 15-3. Spencer Richey made four saves for UW.

Cal plays its next match in Berkeley on Nov. 4, when it takes on UCLA at 3:30 p.m. In fact, the Bears' last three games of the regular season are at home, as they also host San Diego State at 2 p.m. on Nov. 6 and host Stanford at 2 p.m. on Nov. 11 at Edwards Stadium. Cal's regular-season finale - the second and last match of its Bay Area Derby with the rival Cardinal - takes place on Veterans Day.
