FRESNO, Calif. - Establishing new season highs for home runs at four and total bases at 30, the No. 11 California softball team took home a 12-3 win over Bradley on Saturday afternoon at the Bayer CropScience Classic. Jamia Reid, Jace Williams, Jordan Wallace and Victoria Jones all homered to propel the Bears (13-2) to two runs in the first, four in the fourth and fifth and then two in the seventh to overpower the Braves (10-9).
"She came in on me, and I was just patient and went with the pitch," Jones said of her first career homer. "It's something that I have been waiting to do for a long time!"
With a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth, Wallace and Jones registered their shots. In the same inning, Jamia Reid tripled and Williams singled to make it 4-0 in favor of the Bears.
In the top of the fifth, Jamia Reid earned herself an inside-the-park homer to put Cal up, 10-2.
"I just knew I was going to keep running," Reid said. "After I saw it go by, I kicked it into another gear. I didn't want to stay at third."
Bradley avoided the mercy with three runs in the bottom of half of the fourth. The Bears added two runs in the top of the seventh courtesy a single by Jolene Henderson, who plated Williams and Britt Vonk.
Jamia Reid and Jace Williams led the game with three hits apiece while Reid collected five RBI.
"We were all seeing the ball well in the first game," Williams noted of her Cal squad. "When you get 15 hits as a team against anyone, it is impressive. Bradley was a worthy opponent and it wasn't an easy game by any stretch. A home run out of me is an accident. I have already doubled my homer total from last year with two now so I think it is a great sign."
Jolene Henderson pitched the seven-inning win, allowing three earned runs off five hits. She also struck out seven.
Cal got four of its runs off starter Mackenzie Camp and another eight off Madeline Lynch-Crumri.
