Final Stats

SEATTLE - In the rubber match between No. 9/12 California and No. 6/7 Washington, the higher ranked team emerged victoriously. The Huskies mercied the Bears, 9-1, in six innings to earn the series title.

UW improves to 29-4 overall and 4-2 in the Pac-10 Conference while Cal drops to 24-8 and 2-4 in the Pac-10.

It was 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, when the Huskies scored six runs off five hits and one Cal error. Kaitlin Ingelsby homered to left, plating three runs to hand the Huskies the win.

Ingelsby led all student-athletes with five RBI while Niki Williams knocked in two of her own. For the Bears, only Jamia Reid and Britt Vonk got hits. Victoria Jones scored Cal's sole run. Ingelsby (17-2) pitched the six-inning win, issuing five strikeouts and allowing two hits and no earned runs. Arianna Erceg (2-3) suffered the loss.

The Huskies started the scoring in the bottom of the first when Ingelsby singled to right, plating Kimi Pohlman, who had singled to third. Cal responded with a run in the second, when Victoria Jones came around to score.

In the top of the second, the Huskies made it 2-1 thanks to a homer by Shawna Wright to left center. UW scored once more in the bottom of the third, giving the Huskies a 3-1 lead until the bottom of the sixth. Niki Williams tripled to right center to score Jenna Clifton and Morgan Stuart. Pohlman singled to right, plating Williams. With runners at second and first, Ingelsby homered to close the game.

It's time for the third mid-week match-up of the year when the Gaels of Saint Mary's make the short road trip to Berkeley. Cal hosts SMC on Wednesday, April 13 at 3 p.m. at Levine-Fricke Field.

The Wednesday game kicks off an 11-game homestand for the Bears that continues with three games against Oregon. The Ducks fly south for a 3 p.m. tilt on Friday, April 15. Saturday, April 16 will see the Bears and Ducks square off at 1 p.m. before concluding the series Sunday at noon.
