SEATTLE, Wash. -

Sophomore third baseman Mitch Delfino hit his third home run of the season helping to lead the No. 16 California Golden Bears to a 6-2 victory over the Washington Huskies in game one of the weekend series in Seattle.

Delfino broke a scoreless tie with his solo shot in the fifth inning. The Huskies answered in the bottom of the inning, tying the game 1-1.

Sophomore centerfielder Darrel Matthews broke the tie in the seventh inning, doubling in a pair of runs before getting throw out trying to stretch the double into a triple.

Junior catcher Chadd Krist laced his Pac-10 leading 16th double of the season in the eighth inning, driving in two more runs to put the Bears up 6-1. The Huskies plated a run in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run on deck, but freshman left-hander Kyle Porter struck out Troy Scott to end the game.

Junior right-hander Erik Johnson earned his fifth victory of the season, improving to 5-1 on the season, going 6.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits, striking out three. Porter earned his second save of the season, working 2.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out six of the 11 batters he faced.

Senior left fielder Austin Booker extended his hitting streak to ten games, going 2-for-3 and scoring a run in the eighth inning.

With the win, the Bears improve to 21-9 overall and 7-3 in Pac-10 games. The Huskies fall to 10-21 and 2-5 in the Pac-10.

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. in Seattle. Sophomore lefty Justin Jones (4-2, 3.42 ERA) is slated to start for the Bears. Free live streaming video will be available through the Huskies website.
