Final Stats
BERKELEY - Behind 10 California hits and five Santa Clara errors, the No. 9/10 Golden Bears rolled to a 12-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman hurler Arianna Erceg went five innings in the circle - striking out three and allowing just three hits - en route to her fourth win of the season.
"It felt good," Erceg said of her performance. "The defense was behind me like always. That kind of run support made my job a lot easier."
Cal scored four runs in three different innings - the second, third and fourth - to propel Cal to its 31st win of the season. The Bears now stand at 31-9 while SCU drops to 6-24.
The Bears worked Bronco starter Jessica Turner for six earned runs off nine hits. Jenna Fong pitched one inning with one earned run.
Freshman second baseman Victoria Jones paced the Bears with three RBI while freshman designated player LaRisa Jones had two. Jamia Reid, Frani Echavarria and Victoria Jones all tallied two hits.
The Bears broke the game open in the bottom of the second with an RBI double from Jordan Wallace and a two-RBI single by Victoria Jones. LaRisa Jones grounded out to score the other Jones.
The game was Cal's final nonconference test of the regular season.
"It's always good to work in during the week," Erceg said. "It's good to face any kind of practice. It really helps us prepare and focus."
This weekend, the Bears close out an incredible 11-game homestand with their final three games at Levine-Fricke Field. The last home Pac-10 series starts Friday, April 29 at 3 p.m. versus defending national champion UCLA.
The Bears and their baby sister Bruins continue Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m. and close the series at noon on Sunday, April 31. Sunday will be a great day to bring the kids with free Silly Bandz to the first 50 kids, a poster-creation station, post-game autographs and a chance to run the bases after the game.
