Box Score

BERKELEY - Five Cal pitchers kept Santa Clara off the scoreboard, including freshman starter Chris Muse-Fisher, as the Golden Bears shut out Santa Clara, 4-0, Tuesday (April 17) at Evans Diamond. The left-hander Muse-Fisher improved his record to 2-1 in his first collegiate start, throwing 5.1 innings with five hits, no walks and a strikeout. Offensively, senior catcher Chadd Krist went 3-for-4; while sophomore right fielder Andrew Knapp, junior second baseman Tony Renda and junior first baseman Mitch Delfino all had two hits apiece.

Cal improved to 20-15 overall and Santa Clara dropped to 18-16. Krist had three singles on day, Knapp went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the fifth inning, Renda was 2-for-4 with two doubles and Delfino was 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the third inning. Freshman shortstop Chris Paul drove in another run with squeeze bunt in the eighth inning.

The Bears' first run of the day came in the first inning after Renda doubled and scored on Bronco catcher Quinton Perry's throwing error after Santa Clara starter Paul Twining (3-3, 4.0 innings, five hits, one earned run, two strikeouts) had struck out Delfino. When the third strike pitch struck the dirt, Perry overthrew first baseman Drew Ozanne as Delfino ran to first base.

Sophomore right-hander Michael Lowden did an outstanding job relieving Muse-Fisher in the sixth inning, getting out of a bases loaded jam with one out by forcing a ground out and getting Pat Stover to miss on a third strike. Freshman right-hander Keaton Siomkin, junior right-hander Logan Scott and senior right-hander Joey Donofrio threw the final three innings for Cal.

The Bears next return to Pac-12 action with a three-game series versus Utah, April 20-22. KNEW 960 AM, part of the IMG Sports Network, will broadcast the April 21 and April 22 games, while Cal's student radio, KALX 90.7 FM, will broadcast all three games of the series. Game times are 2:30 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
