BERKELEY - Capitalizing on some hot hitting and a trio of Beaver errors, the No. 1 California softball team handled No. 22 Oregon State 9-1 in five innings on Friday afternoon.

Frani Echavarria drove in the first two runs in the top of the second. With her Bears leading 6-0, Danielle Henderson sky rocketed the Bears into mercy territory with a three-run jack in the top of the fourth to put Cal up 9-0.

OSU avoided being Cal's 24th shutout victim by tacking on a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Jolene Henderson (27-1) went the distance, pitching a two-hitter with the one earned run.

Tina Andreana (9-10) suffered the loss after the first three earned runs in as many innings off five hits, two hit batters and four walks. Paige Hall pitched two innings in relief, but all four runs under her watch were unearned.

Top of the Second - Cal 3, OSU 0:

Cordes walked and Andreana hit Danielle Henderson then Jolene Henderson to load the bases for Frani Echavarria. Echavarria singled to right, plating Cordes and the younger Henderson while Jolene Henderson went to third and then Echavarria to second on the throw. Jamia Reid hit the ball hard back to the pitcher's backhand, it deflected to the vacated shortstop area, allowing Henderson to score.

Top of the Fourth - Cal 9, OSU 0:

Frani Echavarria led off and got on when her grounder popped in and out of the third baseman's glove. Jamia Reid singled and both runners moved up when Ashley Decker grounded out to second. Echavarria and Reid scored when Valerie Arioto lined to center, when it was dropped at the fence. William's reached on catcher's interference and Breana Kostreba on a fielder's choice. With Williams at second and Kostreba at first, Danielle Henderson issued her 14th homer of the year to make it 9-0.

Bottom of the Fourth - Cal 9, OSU 1:

Elizabeth Santana walked and moved to second - when Hannah Bouska was picked off - and to third on a wild pitch. Erin Guzy netted an RBI ground out to short, plating Santana.
