Zabala is one of the top goalkeepers in the country...All-America candidate…is extremely athletic and known for making spectacular saves...her style of play is very physical, as she is not afraid to leave her line to challenge an opponent or snare crosses...Zabala's 17 shutouts for her three-year career put her in third place all time at Cal, five behind Karen Cook's school record of 22.
CAL: 1999: Started 19 of Cal's 21 games, playing 1,731 minutes…posted six shutouts, giving her 17 for her career and an excellent chance of breaking the Cal record (22)…led the Pac-10 with both a 1.04 goals-against average and six shutouts…earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 4-10 following two shutouts of the Oregon schools…selected first team All-Pac-10 for the second-straight season…also named second team Academic All-Pac-10…picked as Cal's MVP and as the Co-Golden Bear Award recipient, which is awarded to the player who embodies the spirit of a Cal student-athlete.
1998: Selected first team All-Pac-10...one of only three Golden Bears to start all 21 matches during the regular season, playing every minute of every game in the Cal net…closed out the regular season against Oregon State with her ninth shutout of the season…her nine shutouts was the second-best mark posted among Pac-10 goalkeepers in '98…finished up with a 0.97 goals-against average, which ranked third in the Pac-10…her nine shutouts moved her into a three-way tie with Noreen Paris and Mary Harvey for the second-most shutouts in a season at Cal, two back of Cook's all-time record of 11…held opponents to a goal or less in 15 of Cal's 20 matches.
1997: A second team All-Pac-10 honoree...had an outstanding debut season at Cal...started eight matches, amassing a 1.04 GAA and a 4-4 record...logged two shutouts and also made a team-high 47 saves on the year...got her first start against No. 1-ranked and eventual national champion North Carolina, which had been averaging five goals a game, and held the Tar Heals to a single goal for only the second time to that point in the season...also recorded a season-high 11 saves vs. UNC...came back just 48 hours later and held 18th-ranked Massachusetts to one goal in a 2-1 Cal victory...earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for her play against UNC and UMass...closed the season with back-to-back shutouts at Arizona and Arizona State.
