AS A FRESHMAN (1997): Started 43 games in center field for the Bears, batting .239 with three doubles, a home run and 10 RBI...was also 15-for-19 in stolen bases (7-for-10 versus conference foes)...was 3-for-11 at Hawaii Jan. 30- Feb. 1 and first collegiate home run was a grand slam Jan. 31 versus the Rainbows...was 2-for-3 with a double in the Pepperdine series Feb. 7-9...ended the season on a five-game hitting streak (8-for-21, two RBI), including going 3-for-8 with two RBI at Clemson...
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: At St. Joseph High School in Alameda, was a four-time all-league performer and was named the team's Most Improved Player as a freshman and team MVP as a senior...had batting averages of .400 as a freshman, .390 as a sophomore, .421 as a junior and .430 as a senior...competed in the Area Code Games in the summer of 1996 at Long Beach State's Blair Field...in the summer of 1997 played for the Rochester Honkers of the Northwood Collegiate League, batting .254 with four doubles, three triples, five home runs, 22 RBI and 18 stolen bases…in the summer of 1998 played for the Oakland Expos, batting .436 with six doubles, four home runs, 16 RBI and 10 stolen bases...also recruited by Cal State Fullerton and San Jose State before selecting Cal...majoring in American studies...twin brother, Kevin, played for the Bears from 1997-2000 and is in the Detroit Tigers organization…parents are Wilson and Peggy Johnson...born May 28, 1978 in Eugene, OR.
